Fruity Oaty Smoothie Recipe

In my quest to ingest more nutrients, I always fall back on this delicious fruity, oaty smoothie. Filled with protein, fiber, and energy-filled carbohydrates, this smoothie keeps me full for at least a couple hours.

Another great thing about this smoothie is that it’s relatively cheap. I can get 3-4 smoothies out of one small bag of frozen mixed fruit, a big tub of yogurt, and a gallon of milk. One banana makes two smoothies, and a container of quick oats makes countless smoothies.

Please note, I am by no means a health nut: I love chocolate, sugary desserts, and everything else that’s not good for you. However, I do find that the more I eat healthy foods such as this smoothie, the less I crave junk food.

Fruity Oaty Smoothie

Ingredients
3/4 cup plain 0% fat yogurt
1/4 cup to 1/2 cup of milk (less milk= thicker smoothie, more milk= thinner consistency)
1/4 cup to up to 1/2 cup of quick oats (depending on how oaty you like your smoothies)
3/4 cup to 1 cup of frozen mixed berries or cherry berry mixed frozen fruit, or you can experiment with flavors by using any type of mixed frozen fruit you like!
1/2 a frozen banana (I use a little less than half of a banana because I do not enjoy the taste of frozen bananas, this is more for texture and to add some sweetness to the smoothie)

Instructions
Put all the ingredients in the blender and blend away! I like to pulse for a couple seconds to get the big chunks broken up, and then I just blend on low until the oats and fruits are small fragments. Please note, the more you blend, the thinner it will be. If you like thick smoothies, replace some of the fruit with an ice cube or just add some ice. You may need to add a little more milk to make up for the added ice.

Bonus Blender Cleaning Tip

The one thing that sucks about making smoothies is cleaning the blender. I’ve found that if I give it a quick rinse, add a drop of soap and some water (not a lot of water or it will rise above the top and make a mess!), and blend the soapy water, it does a good job of cleaning the blender. Then, rinse out the soapy water, add some water without soap, and blend again. Repeat as necessary until no soap remains in the blender. I only clean my blender like this about every other time I make a smoothie, because I know there may still be some chunks of fruit and/or oats stuck under the blades where you can’t easily see them, and let’s face it: no one wants to eat old, blended food particles.

Spicy Louisiana Cheese Pizza

Do you want to enjoy a good pizza without the expensive price tag of ordering or going out? Well, here’s a pizza recipe my fiance came up with that tastes really good and the best part is it was very inexpensive to make!

Spicy Louisiana Cheese Pizza

Ingredients
Mama Mary’s Thin & Crispy Pizza Crust (you can find these in the grocery store where the taco shells are)
Great Value pizza sauce
Shredded mozarella cheese
Parmesean cheese
black pepper
garlic salt
olive oil (if you have it) or water (if you don’t have olive oil)
Great Value louisiana style hot sause
Butterball fully cooked turkey bacon, or any other toppings you like (optional)

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
2. Lightly brush crust with olive oil (optional)
3. Cover pizza crust with a light layer of pizza sauce, followed by a heavy layer of mozarella cheese, another light layer of pizza sauce, and another light layer of cheese.
4. Tear up fully cooked turkey bacon and put it on the pizza along with any other ingredients you like on your pizza.
5. Rub the edge of the crust with either olive oil or water.
6. Sprinkle parmesean cheese on pizza.
7. Put some Louisiana hot sauce on the pizza.
8. Lower oven temperature to 425 degrees and bake for 7 minutes or until desired crispiness is achieved.

Easy Breakfast Burritos

I love cooking and coming up with my own recipes. Here’s a really easy recipe I came up with that would be great for college students who may only have a microwave to cook in, or anyone who doesn’t have time to prepare an elaborate breakfast in the morning. And it’s so simple, you may find yourself making these breakfast burritos a breakfast staple in your home! This recipe yields two breakfast burritos.

This simple breakfast burrito recipe uses few ingredients and is so simple to make, you'll be making them all the time!

Ingredients:
Flour tortillas – 2
Brown n’ serve sausage – 2 sausage patties
Eggs – 2
Cheese – any kind you like, 2 slices or enough shredded cheese for 2 tortillas
Milk (optional)
Salt and pepper (optional)

Directions:
Before you start making these, get all your ingredients out for ease of preparation.

1. Crack open the eggs in a small bowl and mix them up well as if you
were making scrambled eggs, as that is essentially what you’ll be doing. I like to add a teaspoon or so of milk and salt and pepper in with the eggs for flavor/texture, but this is entirely optional. Make sure the eggs are completely mixed – i.e. no whole yolks.

2. Put the bowl in the microwave and check it/stir it every thirty seconds – a minute. When the eggs are no longer liquidy, they are done.

3. Get out two Brown n’ serve sausage patties – I use the original ones but it doesn’t matter what kind you use – and wrap them in a paper towel or put them on a microwave safe plate and cook them for 2 – 3 minutes. Lower wattage microwaves = more cooking time.

4. Arrange two flour tortillas on a microwave safe plate and microwave for about 10-15 seconds or until soft.

This is how you should fill your burrito. After filling, simply roll, fold the ends in and enjoy!

5. When cool, break up sausage patties into pieces and put one patty on each tortilla, in the center of the tortilla.

6. Put half of the egg mixture on each tortilla.

7. Tear each slice of cheese into thin strips and place one slice of cheese on each tortilla. I like to use Borden’s Sharp Cheese. If you used shredded cheese, sprinkle on as much cheese as desired.

8. Roll up the tortilla making sure to fold in the ends so your delicious fillings don’t fall out! I like to put the finished tortilla in the microwave for a few seconds so the cheese melts somewhat, but this is optional.
